ING 2006 Annual Conference - Sterling Heights, Michigan
The International Newspaper Group will hold its annual conference on Sept. 18 - 21, 2006, at the Crowne Plaza - Airport Hotel. Host cities for the conference are selected to afford the opportunity to tour new or upgraded newspaper facilities and other pertinent tour sites - in this case Detroit Newspapers. Detroit Press is one of the premier installation sites for Burgess Industries. Detroit Newspaper Partnership, L.P. manages the business operations of the Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News, including production, advertising and circulation. Gannett Co, Inc., owner of the Detroit Free Press, is the general partner in the Detroit Newspaper Partnership and MediaNews Group, owner of The Detroit News, is the limited partner. The two newspapers currently publish separate editions Monday through Friday and combined editions on Saturday and Sunday. Both newspapers can also be accessed at their respective websites, detnews.com and freep.com. The New Detroit Newspaper Partnership (DNP) production facility is where over 570,000 copies of The Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press are now produced daily. That’s in addition to the plant’s Sunday press runs, which exceed 720,000 copies and are printed in sections on three separate days then combined for the final product. The focus of a $177 million expansion, the plant runs six state-of-the-art Burgess plate management and handling systems which will be part of the the pre-press tour for the ING conference. The Detroit Newspaper Partnership facility includes plate elevators delivering plates to both upper and lower press decks, Burgess ACB (Adjustable Cutoff Bender) Benders, The Burgess Plate Manager and multiple plate transport, sorter/stacker modules and plate rotators.
